25 Things I Want To Tell My Son

And I will!

1. First off, we love you forever. Through and through

2. You are the most fun-loving and joyful kid I know. What a gift you are.

3. Please don't sample things that aren’t food.

4. I am getting to experience the world through your eyes lately and it's so great.

5. You don’t need to impress anyone later, like a crush, by flexing your biceps

6. Try to keep a bond with your sister. You guys could end up best friends one day.

7. Clean out the car after each trip, especially if you just exercised. Hoo boy.

8. If you ever find yourself obsessing over something, find someone to talk it over with. More than likely you might need some perspective and by talking about it, you won’t feel so alone in it.

9. It’s going to be so easy to fall into the trap of achievements equalling your self-worth.

10. Learn to do laundry

11. Cook often

12. Travel when you can

13. Change your socks

14. Don’t ignore the little things

15. This world is full of distractions and ever increasingly so. When you’re having a conversation with someone, stay in it. Don’t drift away.

16. Keep your true friends, even as you grow up. Call them, ask to hang out.

17. Learn about other people. Ask them questions.

18. When you feel depressed, reach out to us. Don’t isolate yourself. See someone in person that you feel good to be around.

19. Don’t ever ever ever quit when you’ve found something you love to do, whether it be a hobby or job.

20. Floss and use sunscreen yo, even when you don’t feel like it.

21. Don’t punch things, for the most part.

22. You’re going to receive a ton of messaging in the media on how boys and men are supposed to look and act. Mostly they’re going to be fads or very outdated.

23. Friends and strangers will peer pressure you. Who knows what they’ll want but it’s most likely on a whim and not something they’ll care about later.

You will care.

24. Drugs are a short walk to nowhere.

25. The happiest you’ll ever be is probably when laughing with friends or doing something that isn’t for yourself.

Love you.
